Who decided individual independence was good? Was it the one who stopped forgiving and trusting people? Was it the one who enjoyed the power of control? Or was it the one with a heart and a desire to better themselves and those around them?
Independence has taken a strange face in this generation. It means being self-sufficient, taking neither help-- nor bribes, from anyone. "Independent" has become a label for women who work full time, live on their own, or support a family by themselves. It means we can trust no one, and depend on no one.
It may be true that marginalized or abused people must fight for their group independence, and a child must grow responsible and live independent of their parents-- to an extent.
However, I believe we have lost the meaning of life if we become so independent that we no longer trust people. It is not good for man to be alone.
I believe we were created to be dependent, to love and be loved and know love; we were created to live in-dependence.

oh, and the most important type of dependence we were created for was to be dependent on God.
It's true. Jesus instructed us to live in community, to build the body of Christ (build the body of christ? I'm just about as tired of saying that as I am of saying "God's will for me"), which means trusting people and encouraging them to always seek God and listen for him, doing whatever he says, going wherever he goes, and vice versa. When God created Adam, he loved God and did what he was told, but was lonely. He wanted someone who was like him, who he could communicate with.
So why are you so tired of saying "build the body of Christ"?
I don't know if Adam was lonely, I mean, isn't God all we need? Maybe woman (hehe) was created not out of a want from Adam, but as a part of God's original plan (I mean, that he pre-thought it, rather then Adam suggesting it?)
I'm tired of those two phrases because I'm tired of hearing people (including myself) talk about stuff and not act on it. If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him. Every single day. Connect with Him on a daily basis. As for building the body of Christ, well it seems simple enough, but I've been asking God about it a lot lately. That is, what does building the body of Christ/living in community and "in-dependence" mean for Nate Fifield?
Haha yeah that's what I meant, of course Adam wasn't lonely, he didn't even know there could ever be another like him. God created all the animals for Adam to name them but still, none of them was "a helper fit for him." Sometimes I get really high up in the air and forget what I'm talking about... as you probably know.
Anyways, shouldn't we all be helpers fit for each other? Anyone who believes in Him is family, so let's live in-dependence and BUILD THE BODY OF CHRIST!
